As a typedesigner you desperetly want to know the conditions of legibility and readability. To experience this area you need to test the single elements of type. When you take away things till you come to a stage where type almost becomes a picture and where pictures start to release a reading process. Apart from the conclusions you can make on type and typography, in this stage elements start to flicker. The mind swops from reading to picture and back.

These are only 4 vertical strokes, but they already feel like characters. In german we have the word »Buchstaben« (letter, characters) Buch (Book) and Staben - Stäbe (Staffs).

This is quite simple. It is just copy reduced on the copymachine and then enlaged again.
the funny thing is that you know it is text, you want to read it, but the contents is almost gone.

In this experiment I took a font, changed the characters to circles. The more frequent characters are a big circle the less frequent a small circle, according to there frequency in a german text. So I took a german text and converted it to the circlefont.

In the next example every character has got its own angle.
